What's my MC number?
Type your company name or USDOT number. We show the MC docket, whether it's active or still pending, and what's on file.
Where your MC number comes from
When you apply for operating authority, FMCSA assigns a docket number, the "MC number." Getting the number does not mean the authority is active. It stays pending until your insurance company files proof of coverage, your process agent files the BOC-3, and the review window from your application date runs. Most carriers see it turn active three to five weeks after applying, and the ones who stall are almost always waiting on the insurance filing.
Your USDOT number is different: it's free, it's assigned first, and it's the number FMCSA uses to identify the company. Brokers and insurers ask for both.
